With summer finally on its way, now is a beautiful time to get out on the water. We’re spoilt with picturesque waterways in the Illawarra. From our gorgeous Lake Illawarra to the white sandy beaches in the Shoalhaven, we’re lucky to be living in such a beautiful place that offers convenient access to get out on the water!
Safety is always number one for you and your family so check out these tips from City of Wollongong before checking out my recommendation for boat ramps in the area!
1. Callala Bay Boat Ramp, Boorawine Terrace, Callala Bay
A stunning part of Australia, this boat ramp is well serviced by a range of different amenities including toilets, power box, barbecue and seating. The local IGA is convenient for last-minute supplies before heading out for a day of adventure. The boat ramp has adequate space either side to allow for reversing the trailer with ease. A convenient boat ramp that has everything you need nearby.
2. Windang Boat Ramp, 18 Fern Street, Windang
The Windang Boat Ramp is a classic in a beautiful location right beside the bridge and beside the tourist park for those from out of town. It has a fishing line and tackle bin plus regular rubbish bins and toilets. The nearby town of Windang is well serviced with fishing and tackle stores, shops and restaurants.
3. Breakwater Park Boat Ramp, Shell Cove
Oceanfront Dr, end of Harbour Blvd The Waterfront, Marina
The newly developed Marina has a public double boat ramp with plenty of trailer parking and direct access to the Tasman Sea. It also has a fish cleaning area, fuelling, maintenance, toilets and service facilities. Shell Cove Town Centre is within a 10-minute walk and has everything you’d need for a day on the water including a Woolworths and a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes.
