Teagan’s Tips: 3 travel trends for an autumn getaway

By local travel agent Teagan Underwood of TravelManagers

With the summer holidays all too quickly becoming a distant memory, you’re not alone if you’re already dreaming of that next great trip. Whether you’re wanting to make the most of the Easter long weekend, or planning the perfect Autumn getaway to escape the grind, I’ve got you covered with my top three trending destinations for the season.

1. Take a laid-back trip to Cairns

What do we need as the weather gets colder? Tropical vibes! Cyclone Jasper has not stopped this vibrant city from showcasing the best Far North Queensland has to offer. Picture crystal blue water, colourful plants and an abundance of birds – you’ll be relaxed and on island time from the minute you step off the plane. Cairns is a great destination for the young and young-at-heart. The city serves as a gateway to a range of experiences: snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, encountering wildlife, shopping at the magical markets in Kuranda and exploring the Daintree Rainforest. Cairns promises a memorable blend of affordability, fun and natural wonders. With regular deals on cheap flights and accommodation styles to suit everyone’s budget, Cairns will be a top Australian destination this year.

2. Cruise the South Pacific

Do you just want to switch off and leave the day-to-day planning to someone else? Then don’t look past the classic cruise. A consistent travel trend, cruising from Sydney to the Pacific Islands is a perfect choice for school holidays or anyone seeking a hassle-free escape. Sip a drink by the pool as you island hop between pristine beaches – all without the need for constant packing and unpacking. Having meals and drinks included makes budgeting a breeze, and by eliminating the stress and cost of flying, a South Pacific cruise is an obvious choice for locals wanting both relaxation and adventure (and a Kids Club …).

3. Say Ciao to Italy!

Italy is the No.1 international destination for my clients and has long-captivated travellers with its stunning architecture and, of course, the food. If pizza and pasta every day, followed with a perfect, authentic gelato doesn’t whet your appetite for this beautiful country, then the history sure will. Take a romantic gondola ride through the canals of Venice, get your steps up touring the Colosseum of Rome, embrace the spirit of the Vatican, or hike between the five towns of Cinque Terre – a group of colourful seaside villages, offering breathtaking coastal views from cliffs dotted with lemon trees. My personal favourite city, Florence, is nestled in the heart of Tuscany and home to Michelangelo’s David. And the best sandwiches at All'antico Vinaio! While the flight times to Italy may be a little daunting, the price doesn’t have to be – with a vast choice of airlines, I can usually find a good deal from $1300 return in off-peak seasons!
