What’s On at the Writers Centre in August

The South Coast Writers Centre enjoyed a fantastic Readers and Writers Festival in July. The weekend was the Centre’s busiest festival yet, with Saturday sessions completely sold out before the day even started. Attendees and presenters alike had a fantastic experience at the venue in Thirroul and the SCWC hopes to make next year’s festival even better!

Even though the Readers and Writers Festival is over, the SCWC still has an exciting calendar of events coming up.

The Young Writers Program starts up again in week 2, term 3, with new mentors Rebecca Monteleone and Bron Pierson joining experienced facilitator Rhys Lorenc. Workshops are held weekly for students aged 10-18 at Wollongong Library and Coledale Hall on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. Enrol now to secure your spot – late enrolments welcome up to week 6.

Members Silent Write-Ins at the SCWC also make their return in August. Now weekly on Wednesdays, all members are welcome to bring along their current writing projects to Coledale Hall between 9:30am and 3pm. These write-ins are designed to create a focused but communal space to foster creativity and productivity. Free for SCWC members, bookings essential.

And an exciting new workshop is coming up at the end of the month! On August 24, join the host of Enough Said Poetry Slam, Adara Enthaler, in the half-day, exclusive workshop ‘Performing Your Poetry’. Adara will take participants through strategies for delivery and explore everything you need to know about bringing your poems to life, from stage presence, the use of a microphone, controlling your breath and nerves, to performing in front of a live audience. Spots are limited so book now.
