Coalcliff Ocean Swim Club dives into summer with new training concept

By Brigid Collaery of Coalcliff SLSC

Coalcliff Surf Life Saving Club is excited to launch the 2024/25 season of its ocean swim club proudly sponsored by Equilibrium Healthcare, now in its third year.

This season, we will be running monthly swims focused on helping members to improve their ocean swimming skills around a regular course from Coalcliff Beach. The sessions will include practice getting in and out through the surf break, ocean swimming techniques and finding a pace and rhythm that suits you to build your confidence as an ocean swimmer.

Coalcliff Ocean Swim Club is a non-competitive, fun and inclusive swim club that aims to give community members the opportunity to engage in ocean swimming in a friendly environment supported by the surf club during the patrolling season (October to April).

We’re also currently working with Equilibrium Healthcare and Helensburgh-Stanwell Park SLSC on some exciting events, so watch this space.

Our first swim will be Sunday, 13 October, meeting at 10.30 for an 11am swim. To join, head to the Coalcliff website at https://www.coalcliffslsc.com.au/oceanswimclub and complete the forms for associate member/swim club. The joining fee is $50, and you will receive a lovely bright swim cap to wear during the swims.

Free membership offer

Join our surf club as a volunteer – there are some great benefits and we need you!

A bonus for volunteers this year is that the club is able to offer patrolling members free membership! As a patrolling member, you receive the latest First Aid training that enables you to provide life-saving support to the community while on patrol in and out of the water – incredibly useful skills and knowledge for everyday life.

As a volunteer, you get the opportunity to complete the Surf Rescue Certificate and the Bronze Medallion and you can join the ocean swim club free. If you’re keen, you can learn how to crew and drive the inflatable boats, you’ll learn radio communication skills, how to recognise rips, read the weather and many other skills all while enjoying the benefits of the great outdoors, in and around the ocean.

There’s always swimming and the obligatory sausage sizzle (or alternative) on patrol days too. Come and join us for some fun this summer while you support the community!
