On Saturday, March 11, more than 400 people took part in the 2023 Great Illawarra Walk, a 40km charity trek from Shellharbour to Thirroul raising funds for the Illawarra Academy of Sport's Para Sports Program (formerly Athlete with a Disability).

Though there were fewer people than expected, more than $75,000 has been raised this year, which will go towards the construction of a gym for disabled athletes.
