Wollongong City Council release: 29 August 2023
Banners have gone up in the Crown Street Mall building the excitement for Wollongong’s new contemporary multicultural festival, Culture Mix, coming this October.
Culture Mix is a free, one-day outdoor event that celebrates Wollongong’s diverse community with vibrant music, dance, workshops, installations, and food from around the world. If you haven’t saved Saturday 21 October 2023 in your calendar, do so now as you’ll not want to miss this great event.
As Wollongong City Council gets ready to share the program (coming soon) the message to community members is that this free event will be a ‘choose your own adventure’.
“This is going to be a massive community event and there will be so many things to see and do on the day. We’re working hard to put the finishing touches on the Culture Mix program and look forward to announcing all the details soon,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
“In the meantime, to whet your appetite, some of the exciting activities to look forward to are a Global Kitchen where people can learn new recipes with cooking demonstrations or at the Food Fair where they can taste their way around the world, a Celebration Stage that will be the place to cheer the best of Wollongong’s diverse and talented community, and Creative Sessions such as drumming and dance workshops.
“Culture Mix is also an inclusive event for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. The event will offer a number of accessible features such as a quiet space, viewing area and AUSLAN and bilingual volunteers at nominated sessions to help make this a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone.
“There will be something for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to sharing more details with you, but for now save the date — Saturday 21 October, 12noon to 8pm — in your diaries. You won’t want to miss this event.”
