Noise, flooding parking and footpaths top priority list for new community leader

Jane Robertson looks forward to pursuing issues that impact residents of Wollongong in her new role as convenor of the city's central Neighbourhood Forum 5 (NF5).

With a nursing background, Jane has always been interested in politics and social justice issues. As a young adult she combined travel with work and volunteering overseas and in remote Australia. On returning to Australia, Jane came to the Illawarra to complete her double degree in International Studies, Politics and Global Development and Environment at the University of Wollongong.

Asked to list some of her priority issues as NF5 convenor, Jane said in a city that continues to grow, resolving problems with excavation noise on hard rock construction sites is high on her 'to do' list.

Also important are "flooding, parking, footpaths and development decisions that will green our city and adapt households to the climate emergency, while also recognising the beauty and history of the region," Jane said.

"Our web of Indigenous, coal, steel, cultural and military histories and our natural beauty offer significant tourism opportunities."

Jane said she looked forward to working with NF5, in line with the Neighbourhood Forum Charter, assisting Council with important feedback gained through the accessibility of monthly NF5 meetings, open to all in the community to attend and raise issues that are important to them.

"It's a very public and open monthly community consultation," Jane said.

"NF5 has a track record of responding quickly to concerns raised and giving feedback to Council on plans and projects affecting the local community to ensure we continue to have a liveable city for all."

NF5 represents the communities of Coniston, Figtree, Gwynneville, Keiraville, Mangerton, Mount Keira, Mount St Thomas, North Wollongong, West Wollongong and Wollongong City.

Anyone wanting to be involved with NF5 and to receive monthly agendas can do so by emailing the Secretary, David Winterbottom on dwlocalplan1@gmil.com

Details on NF5 meeting dates, times and venue can be found on the Council website.
