Wollongong City Council media release: Tuesday 17 August 2021
Want to share your thoughts on the Corrimal Coke Works Development Proposal? Join the conversation by providing feedback to Council by Tuesday 31 August.
Illawarra Coke Company Pty Ltd and Legacy Property are seeking planning approval to rezone the former Corrimal Coke Works site located at 27 Railway Street Corrimal, to enable residential development, conservation and open space.
As part of this process, we’re seeking community feedback on the draft Planning Proposal, and other related documents, for the former Corrimal Coke Works site.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that the Corrimal Coke Works was an important and valuable site that has received a lot of community interest since the developer had put forward the development project.
“Our goal with the Corrimal Coke Works proposal, is to ensure that our community is informed, involved and able to have a say and be listened to, at every stage of the project. This is a significant proposal, and that’s why it’s been on public exhibition for a longer period of time than required,” Cr Bradbery said.
“This draft proposal will have big implications for Corrimal, so it’s important that we get this right from the very beginning by listening to the wants and needs of our community.
“To adapt to the lockdown restrictions, we’ve used a variety of methods to share information with community, such as online information sessions, phone calls and letters. We’ve also seen just how interested our community is in this proposal, with over 1060 visits to our engagement website and counting.
“If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to join the conversation and share your thoughts on these documents with Council. I encourage everyone who is interested in the Corrimal Coke Works to review the information provided online and share your feedback while you have the chance.
“We want to give everyone a chance to share their thoughts, and if you’re having trouble accessing information, contact Council directly for support.”
The draft Planning Proposal, draft Development Control Plan chapter and draft Planning Agreement letter of offer will be on public exhibition until Tuesday 31 August 2021.
The draft Planning Proposal and other documents are available on the Our Wollongong website, or you can find out more by calling Council’s Customer Service Team on (02) 4227 7111.m
