Transport for NSW Media Release: 11 October 2022
A section of the Princes Highway at Bulli Pass will be closed during the day for two days while Transport for NSW conducts detailed investigations into the impacts of severe weather.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the road would be closed in both directions between Lawrence Hargrave Drive and the M1 Princes Motorway from 9am to 3pm on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October, weather permitting.
“The closures are necessary to provide work crews safe access to inspect the condition of several sites on Bulli Pass where landslips occurred during the major rain events earlier this year,” the spokesperson said.
“Emergency work was completed to stabilise these areas and improve drainage, and now these detailed investigations are needed to inform planning for the longer-term repair work.
“The ongoing wet weather conditions have made accessing the impacted sites difficult.”
The Transport spokesperson said drones mounted with LiDAR cameras would be used during the investigations to capture high-resolution images of the impacted sections of road.
“These cameras produce detailed three-dimensional maps of the ground surface conditions and can only operate during daylight,” the spokesperson said.
“Engineers and geotechnical experts will also carry out inspections to assess ground conditions.”
Detours are in place via Lawrence Hargrave Drive or via the M1 Princes Motorway and Memorial Drive.
Residents within the closure area will have access to their property under the guidance of traffic controllers from Lawrence Hargrave Drive only.
To minimise further closures, Endeavour Energy will take advantage of this closure by Transport for NSW to conduct powerline clearing operations.
Motorists are advised to drive to conditions, follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs and allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
