Pandemic sparks rise in 'co-retailing' trend

Trends have emerged in the way small businesses are adapting in order to survive retail in the current Covid-19 pandemic.

If you are unaware of co-retailing, it is small business owners coming together to operate from one retail space.

Of course, the mix of businesses and personalities of owners has to work because they will share the same client base. Getting this right is the first step to ensure that maximum benefits of co-retailing are reached.

In order to secure a premises for this arrangement, the landlord must approve and negotiations of outgoings must be clear and concise. It is also pivotal that the co-retailers understand their rights and responsibilities, including arrangements for agreed rental obligations both to the landlord and between internal parties.

Raine & Horne Helensburgh manages retail premises within the area and welcomes co-retailing and the benefits it brings to the local community.

We have successfully negotiated a co-retail lease with local businesses Indigo Designs Co., OK Posy Co. and PCA Traditional Furniture & Building. This is a collective group of very talented business people who offer a range of unique handcrafted creations at their premises at 9a Walker Street, Helensburgh.

Because of Covid, they are giving other small businesses the opportunity to showcase their brands by displaying their products onsite. If you are interested, please contact Amanda on indigodesignscollective@gmail.com or via Instagram @indigodesignsco.

Without the ability to offer co-retailing, we would not be able to benefit from the talent of these small business owners.
