Q&A with a naturopath

Kitty Dubourdieu is a 27-year-old Thirroul local who runs her own business, Tolle Totum Naturopathy.

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

Hello! I’m Kitty, a 27-year-old single mother to a gorgeous two-year-old boy, living in the Illawarra. I am a motivated and devoted naturopath who has recently finished my Bachelor of Health Science degree at Endeavour College of Natural Health.

From my own personal experience with health issues in my younger years, I can relate to how difficult it can be to find a practitioner who truly listens and investigates properly. This is when I decided to reach out to a naturopath. After being inspired, educated and heard during my consultation, I knew that I wanted to share this natural way of living with as many people as possible. This is where my love affair with naturopathy began.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always wanted to own my own business, not only to be able to live the work-life that I have always wanted, but to be able to grow something amazing from the ground up.

Best part of your job?

The best part would have to be seeing return clients come in after implementing their treatment plans and being able to visually see a completely new, vibrant and confident client sitting in front of me. Alongside this, finding answers for clients' symptoms after they've spent years searching, is a very special feeling.

Most challenging?

Setting professional boundaries. I am in a profession where we are always trying to help and support clients. Understanding when you need to be a business owner and when you need to be a friend can be tricky.

Who has helped you along the way?

My mum and dad, immensely. Without their generosity and persistence I wouldn’t have my clinic today. Also my beautiful naturopath/healthcare practitioner colleagues who regularly inspire and motivate me to push further.

What is your favourite local way to relax?

Poke bowl takeaway from South Sailor followed by watching the sunset at Thirroul Beach. If you haven’t tried it, this is your sign!
