Need a career change? Thirroul coach Denny Nesbit can help

In a world where career paths are rarely linear and the pursuit of a fulfilling work-life balance has become paramount, Denny Nesbitt stands out as a beacon of guidance and empowerment.

Based in Thirroul, Denny is a dynamic figure who wears many hats – career educator, coach, author and part-time faculty member at the University of Wollongong. With a passion for helping women, especially mothers, navigate career transitions and pursue their aspirations, Denny Nesbitt launched her own business at a time all too familiar to many of us – parenthood.

The essence of Denny's coaching approach lies in fostering sustainable transformations.

"I help women, mainly mothers, who are seeking a career transition – whether it's re-joining the workforce or finding a more satisfying position," Denny says. "Many women struggle with the challenge of changing careers in midlife, often due to the pursuit of flexibility. I assist them in untangling their thoughts and experiences, building confidence, recognising their strengths, and formulating a plan for the future."

Denny's journey into coaching was inspired by her own experiences.

"I was unhappy in my marketing career, but I didn't know what else to do.”

She explains that she used to make excuses and believed that job dissatisfaction was normal. It was only when she became a parent that she realised the importance of being content with what she does.

“I sought the guidance of a life coach who helped me delve into my career aspirations and life goals," she says.

Denny's decided to start her own coaching business to provide the support she had once sought.

"I realised that there was a need for this kind of guidance, especially among mothers who were striving for flexibility," she says. "It's a challenging process, but I felt compelled to help others navigate it. I started coaching people for free, set up a Facebook page, and the business evolved from there."

Challenges, as Denny acknowledges, are an inherent part of entrepreneurship.

"One of the challenges is maintaining work-life boundaries, especially for 'mumpreneurs' like me who juggle between work, school pickups, and family commitments. Discipline and time management are essential. I've learned to schedule everything, including free time, to ensure that I maintain a healthy balance," she says.

Denny thanks her husband for his unwavering encouragement and belief in her endeavours. She also recognises the importance of her community in the Illawarra.

"Living in a place where entrepreneurship is thriving has been immensely beneficial," Denny says. "I'm constantly inspired by people pursuing various unconventional paths.

"I'm currently working on a book focusing on mothers and career change. It's a natural progression from my coaching practice, as many clients need ongoing support. The book will delve into longer-term strategies and insights garnered from working with 43 women."
