Keeping up with Kindergarten!

By Nina Sampson of Helensburgh Public School

Throughout the year, our kindergarten students have shown remarkable progress in various areas. From mastering the basics of reading and writing to exploring the wonders of science and art, their journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

One of the highlights has been the students’ engagement with the school library. A recent survey revealed that the majority of kindergarten students visit the library outside of their scheduled class library time and borrow books on a weekly basis. Every recess the library has a ‘quiet time’ that many kindergarteners enjoy, providing a calm space with mindfulness activities.

In addition to their academic achievements, the kindergarten students have also embraced the social and extracurricular aspects of school life. Over 80% of kindergarten students have joined either the choir, drumming or dance groups! They enjoy playing in our playground, play equipment, toys under the cola and especially love Friday sport. These experiences have helped them develop important social skills, build friendships, and gain confidence in their abilities.

A highlight for all kindergarten students is receiving a merit award for their sensational work at our fortnightly assembly. They particularly love it when a classmate’s name is pulled out of the draw to spin the prize wheel. They are divided on whether the best prize is being able to change the bell song or receive a canteen voucher! Speaking of the canteen, kindergarten students love all the daily home-made warm meals, tasty treats and ice blocks. Our online ordering system makes things super easy for busy families.

We are looking forward to our upcoming kindergarten transition program. Our program has three visits on Fridays: 25 October, 1 November and 8 November. We can’t wait to meet our future students and their families!
