Donate old glasses at See Side Optical

By Sonya Broadhead of See Side Optical

Lions Recycle for Sight Australia has its headquarters in Queensland and is part of the Lions Clubs International Worldwide Eyeglass Recycling Program.

It is a fantastic organisation they run! They are amazingly selfless people.

Over the 26 years that the Australian program has operated, this program has delivered more than seven million pairs of refurbished spectacles to men, women and children in need around the world.

Like many organisations, the Lions have been affected by Covid and there is an overwhelming amount of work to be done to catch up. The next step for us is to help educate people about what can and can NOT be donated.

So here are a few tips to get started:

  • The Lions can only redistribute single-vision (SV) lenses.
  • But See Side Optical can still take multifocals as we have SV lenses that we can fit to them.
  • Frames must be in good working order – damaged frames are of no use.
  • Keep the cases or donate them to your local op shop as they are too large to ship internationally and can't be distributed.

To donate your old glasses, pop into See Side Optical in the Anita's Theatre building at Shop 10, 1a King St, Thirroul.

Phone See Side Optical on 02 4268 3933 for more information.
