If you would rather not make your own, here are some places around Wollongong that specialise in hot cross buns at this time of year. No doubt there are others.

• Zweefers, Fairy Meadow. Traditional and choc chip, individually or in packs of six. Pre-order to ensure your supply.
• Millers’ Local Bakehouse. Among the other pastry deliciousness, get the buns from the Hole in the Wall or Bulli shop front. Make sure to do your research on when and where to avoid disappointment.
• Pane Paradiso. For a short time only, PP buns are available at Finbox, Earthwalker, Black Market Thirroul, Passion in Fruit and Arthurs Food Store, Port Kembla.
• The Royal Bakery. This bakery is on the ground floor of Wollongong Central opposite Coles.
• Baker’s Chemistry. Sara has perfected his gluten-free buns and they are as delicious as his GF bread, which has a cult following. Find them at Flame Tree Co-op or Kiama Farmers Market if you’re lucky.
