Short Bites: new cafes, a prize winner and bottomless weekends

Brewing Up a Storm

Greenacres Disability Services has opened its latest cafe, Brewing Up a Storm, in the foyer of the Wollongong City Council building in Burelli St. It’s the third BUAS for Greenacres, the other two being in the SES building at the Wollongong railway station end of Burelli St and at Warrigal Shell Cove.

The Plant Room

The Disability Trust’s Plant Room Cafe in Spring Hill has a younger sibling. The Plant Room at Horsley has just opened its doors in the grounds of Hammondcare, a residential facility for people living with dementia. The cafe and adjoining playground is open to the community.

The Plant Room is an Australian Disability Enterprise. The Spring Hill cafe recently celebrated its four-year anniversary, serving the community with delicious fresh food while providing supported employment for people with a disability.

Two Doors Up

Two Doors Up cafe and bar in Fairy Meadow won the 'Outstanding Cafe' prize at the recent Illawarra and South Coast Business Awards. It has been operating in its current location since 2019 and, thanks to its extensive menu and friendly atmosphere, is a popular hub for families to gather. The venue also hosts comedy and trivia nights as well as the weekly Art With a Glass.

Bottomless weekends

A few restaurants and bars around town have special offerings on weekends. Keep an eye on the following: Pickled Poet, Thirroul; Boveda, Thirroul; Thirroul Beach Pavilion; Franco Pizza Bar, Thirroul; Bar Padres, Kiama; Principal Brewing, Fairy Meadow; Moominn, Wollongong; Dagwood, Wollongong; Humber, Wollongong. Check their socials for more details and bookings.
