Flame Tree Community Food Co-op is a community-owned non-profit food grocer in Thirroul, on Lawence Hargrave Drive close to the train station. Our aim is to source local organic produce, support local growers and producers, offer high quality fresh produce for our members and minimise plastic packaging.
From 2 January we open at 9am on all weekdays, as well as Saturday to give you that earlier option for visiting us.
There have been several other exciting changes to our store, like a new interior layout and new exterior mural to better illustrate what we do. So please slide open our door and be welcomed in air conditioned comfort, which will keep our produce and you fresh and cool.
Why shop at Flame Tree? We’re all about minimising waste. We like you to bring your own containers to fill, or we can supply bags and jars.
Out the back we do still produce some packaging but we try to recycle or reuse as much as possible. All cardboard is recycled, all clear soft plastic is recycled at Flagstaff at Unanderra, polystyrene boxes are taken to Whyte’s Gully for recycling and waxed cardboard is collected for reuse.
The only waste that we can’t recycle at the moment is non-clear soft plastic and dirty materials. We are looking at permanent ways to recycle soft plastic and saved much of it for the temporary collection day at Corrimal in December. Our staff even like to take any food scraps home for their chooks!
We also have recycling of empty medicine blister packs and encourage everybody to bring these in. Our aim is for you to put nothing in your red bin! Challenging, we know but that should be our dream.
Come and join our Co-op! When you become a member, you’ll get 10% off on all your shopping! Looking forward in welcoming you soon.
