“WORLDS CONNECT” celebrates our diverse community in NSW Multicultural Month through the shared language of music from many parts of the world. Featuring Wollongong Turkish-Australian singer Ayşe Göknur Shanal performing a collection of folk songs from her family’s homeland.
Steel City Strings plays works by Australian composers, the acclaimed Julian Yu and emerging artist Stefanos Maragkakis; who draw on folk and dance traditions of their countries of origin in works specially arranged for this ensemble.
First Nations composer Christopher Sainsbury, Associate Professor of Composition at ANU has specifically arranged a string quartet for Steel City Strings. Idyll for Strings by Leos Janacek from Czechoslovakia in central Europe rounds out this eclectic program that enriches our cultural identity through human experience that is universal.
