The Shell Cove PromenART Sculpture Walk is back for another year with an expanded display of works along the Shellharbour Marina at the Waterfront, Shell Cove until October 30.
After the success of last year’s event, the number of works has been expanded by 25% to more than 50 pieces.
The trail of works presented by ARTPark will wind its way along the Shellharbour Marina and its pathways and boardwalks. Each will include a QR code link to information about the piece.
Many of the pieces were chosen to reflect the oceanside location of Shell Cove. Three works from Mela Cooke’s The Swimmers series of bronzes depicting women getting ready to take the plunge will be on display, along with Tobias Bennett’s 4.5m steel pipe Hungry Egret, also the show’s tallest piece.
The show’s most valuable piece is Michael Van Dam’s 900kg stainless steel and chain Earth’s Custodian, priced at $224,000, but the pieces start at $8890 for Andrew Kasper’s 105kg 195cm weathered steel Fire work.
All of the pieces are available to purchase, whether for private display or in a corporate setting, with proceeds going directly to the artist, many of whom are also available to create bespoke pieces for buyers.
The PromenART Sculpture Walk by Frasers Property Australia and Shellharbour City Council also includes live music from local talent, including Mark Crotti, Glenn Whitehall, Jack Willis and Blessie Pica, every Saturday between 11am and 2pm for its duration.
The project also includes large scale murals by local community groups and artists along the eastern edge of the marina.
During the Sculpture Walk local and renowned muralist Claire Foxton — perhaps best known in the region for her 14m mural of local Matildas’ star Caitlin Foord on the outside of Wollongong Central shopping centre — will add to the mural collection with a new piece.
The Shell Cove October school holiday program will also include the Make Your Mark Youth Mural Painting Sessions. The concept design for the mural was developed by a group of budding young artists in the July holidays under the guidance of local artist Tegan Georgette and will come to life with the help of locals aged 8 to 18 keen to support their work at the northern end of the Shellharbour Marina over three days between October 2 and 10.
Additionally, students from Shell Cove Public School and Stella Maris Catholic Primary School will work together to create a mural in Shellharbour Village.
The Waterfront, Shell Cove Development Director Mathew Gulliver said the PromenART Sculpture Walk was well on the way to becoming a major event in the NSW arts calendar, drawing both locals and visitors to the area.
“Shell Cove has natural beauty in abundance and now it’s also fast developing its own cultural identity through events like this along with the likes of markets, community groups and programs. It’s all part of what makes this community the full package,” he says.
