Wollongong City Council is gearing up for a family-friendly New Year's Eve celebration around Wollongong Harbour, supported by the new naming right sponsor, ForHealth. Festivities commence at 5pm with live music, entertainment, and food trucks in the Harbour precinct. The highlight is a dazzling fireworks display over the iconic harbor and lighthouses at 9 pm.
Adding to the excitement, Lang Park will host a two-week carnival from December 26 to January 7, providing fun for the whole family during the school holidays.
For those traveling to the event, the Free Gong Shuttle Bus will run until 10.50 pm, facilitating easy transportation. Additionally, an accessible viewing area sponsored by Cram Foundation is available for people with disabilities, with bookings now open.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM encourages the community to join the celebration, emphasising the event's appeal for families.
To continue the festivities into midnight, Wollongong CBD businesses have been given permission for a fireworks display on Market Street, complementing the main harbour event. This initiative encourages supporting local businesses while welcoming the new year. The entire Wollongong City Council event remains alcohol-free and smoke-free.
