Dementia Australia’s largest fundraising event will be held in Lang Park on Sunday, 12 March from 8am. Following requests from locals, we are excited to bring this event back to Illawarra and we hope to see as many people there as possible for our 2023 visit!
Last year, across Australia more than 10,000 people walked, jogged and ran for people impacted by dementia. This year we want more people to sign up and help us raise $1.7 million across our 20 events in Australia.
Why walk for dementia?
There are more than 400,000 people of all ages living with some form of dementia in Australia. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people living with dementia is expected to almost double in 30 years. Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia and the leading cause of death for women. Sarah and Carl will be walking to support their Dad, Garry who lives with dementia. They had a great time at their first Memory Walk & Jog last year with their team, Dad's Army.
Sarah said, "It's amazing to find common ground and feel part of a community."
Carl said, "Dementia can be an incredibly overwhelming journey for the person who has been diagnosed and for everyone involved. When my sister found Memory Walk & Jog, she jumped at the chance to sign up and join a community going through a similar experience."
