Coledale film screening raises over $1000 for ‘Grandma’s House’

The Coledale RSL hosted a sold-out screening last week of two locally made short films: Grandma’s House (2024) and Dating Violet (2021).

"The night was a special mix of guests from the local community and the local creative industry and the films were well received," said filmmaker Holly Trenaman.

"There were tears! There were lots of laughs. There was overall joy in seeing our beautiful coastline represented on the big screen, and hearing our local stories."

The RSL film night was sold out

Holly's two Coledale-inspired films were played to over 100 guests last Wednesday, April 16, with a cinema-style set up at the RSL, testing out the club's new screen and tech system.

"It was a success," Holly said. "There was also pizza, and the bar was opened, run by the volunteers, and I know the RSL club is open to having more screenings of this kind in the future.

"The RSL is the hub of Coledale, so continuing to see it thrive, as well as showing two locally made short films there, and watching them thrive, was a true honour."

The night was topped off with the 80th and 82nd birthdays of Colin and Gay Cahill, Holly's ‘local-legend’ grandparents who star in Grandma’s House

The event raised raised over $1000 in donations which will go towards the distribution of the film. Grandma’s House will now be submitted to film festivals around the world and available for streaming soon.

"Thank you to everybody who came out to support the films," Holly said.
