Helensburgh & District Landcare Group
Landcare consists of a network of local volunteer groups. Helensburgh & District Landcare Group volunteers work to find local solutions to local problems such as soil degradation, animal pests, weeds, vegetation loss, waterside erosion, poor water quality and urban land degradation.
One major problem is the escape of environmental weeds from our gardens into the bush and waterways. These weeds have the ability to replace our native bushland especially in areas that have been disturbed. This disturbance can be caused by extra stormwater runoff, by dumping of soil or other waste in bushland, by growing invasive plants in our gardens, and by inappropriate use of bushland areas.
We love our native local bushland, and work on a regular basis to remove environmental weeds that can have a significant impact on our local native plants, animals and birds.
Our website has lots of information on local environmental weeds that some people still have growing in their gardens. We are happy to come and visit your garden to give advice on problematic plants you may be growing. You can also find suggestions for keeping your garden ‘bush friendly’.
We also regularly work on several local sites to try to reverse the weed invasion.
Helensburgh Landcare is the Crown Land Manager for the area we call Station Reserve, which includes the Helensburgh Glowworm Tunnel.
