Lego fans flocked to Helensburgh Lions Brick Fair

Last weekend, Helensburgh Lions Club presented the Brick Fair at Helensburgh Tradies, with all proceeds from the event going towards schools in the local area. From 10 o’clock onwards, it was a busy day as Lego fans admired all the displays. We asked visitors to give us their verdict.

Orion, Michael and Sonny from Helensburgh

Sonny: This is my favourite: the Hogwarts thing with everything from every single Lego set, like the DC ones, The Marvel ones, the Star Wars ones, there’s heaps, I can’t name them all. The Brick Fair is just really cool with all the Lego sets every year.

Orion:  I like the Lego. I like that one [Hogwarts with mini-figures], because it is really big. There is a lot of minifigs.

Michael: My kids love Lego. I love Lego, and I think everyone should be here and have a look at Lego. It's fun.

Jake from Helensburgh

Jake: I'm just here to look at all the displays, so it's good to see what everybody creates. I like this thing over here, which is a display with the boys from South Park. The Lego castle over there: really, really cool. I've actually been after the Hogwarts castle for some time. It's a bit pricey now. I’m actually after the original one, that’s really expensive.

Leon

LeonLego is good because you can play with it. I like the city with trains the best.

Jade from Helensburgh (not pictured): I love to see that our community is also really into Lego, because Lego is something you do at home, something that's sort of insular. So it's wonderful to come out and see that everybody else is into it as well. And be able to sort of chat about it and especially chat with all kinds of generations about Lego – because I can talk about Lego from the 90s that I remember with people, old people, and Lego from the 70s that I inherited when I was a little girl with people who really know and remember those sets. So it's really fun.

Liana, Riley and Michelle from Helensburgh

Liana: I like the Harry Potter builds because I'm a real big fan of Harry Potter and just to see them on display makes me really happy. They're really cool, especially the one over there, which  has all the frames and people moving. It's really cool.

Riley: I kind of like the bowser that’s playing the Nintendo game over there. I like all the big Lego design  and how many bricks it would probably use.

Michelle: I like seeing the creations they make that are sort of outside the box. The ones that don't come with manuals, because my son Riley, he spends a lot of time building just from his imagination. So it's really great to see what they can do, what he could possibly build as he gets older. It's quite intriguing all the things that they can make with Lego.

Save the date for Helensburgh Lions Club's next fundraiser, a BBQ outside Coles: Saturday, 8 July.

If you would like to be involved and spend some time giving back to the community, come along to a Lions meeting on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at Helensburgh Hotel at 6.30pm.
