By Bob Pymm of Helensburgh Men’s Shed
The Men’s Shed is putting in a big effort to prepare for moving from our existing premises. We are negotiating with Council for a more permanent home but this will take a while. In the interim, plans are underway for a temporary re-location to a site in Darkes Forest. It is anticipated that the Shed will be up and running there in the New Year when we will be able to give full details re location, opening times etc.
It probably comes as no surprise, but the Men’s Shed is like any other shed and materials accumulate over time. We have been lucky with having a fair bit of space and good storage facilities which means that not a lot has been thrown out over the years we have been in Parkes Street (you never know when it may come in handy!) but quite a lot has come in.
So before we move, we are undertaking some serious house-cleaning to ensure we take only what we will be using in the coming years. This is a big challenge in downsizing! Hard decisions are being made on what is kept readily accessible and what goes into storage or, as a last resort, recycling or the tip. This will help to make things much easier when the time comes to move onto a more permanent home.
As well as tidying and sorting, work continues at the Shed and we are still a social group, happy to stop for a chat and a cuppa, work on projects and provide a friendly, supportive environment for our members. So do come on down if you are at all interested in joining in – even spring cleaning can be quite a bit of fun!
