Catch two Illawarra museums on a Picnic Train trip

HARS Aviation Museum Media Release: Wednesday, 10 February 2021

Two popular South Coast museums will add fun and flavour as they welcome passengers from the Kiama Picnic Train when it makes a special stop at Albion Park station on Sunday, 14 March.

A free bus will be waiting at the station so, instead of going on to Kiama, passengers can be taken to experience both the Illawarra Light Railway Museum and HARS Aviation Museum before they re-join the train for their return.

The bus will transfer visitors between the museums and also return passengers to re-join their train for return ride home.

While the shuttle bus is free, normal entry fees apply at the museums.

At Illawarra Light Rail visitors can ride rusty rails into railway yesteryear in travel around a bushland setting in historic passenger carriages as well as riding on a miniature train.

There’s also shed tours, picnic grounds, a kid’s playground and food sales.

Volunteer guides are on hand to show visitors around almost 50 aircraft of significance to Australian history at HARS Aviation Museum.

Many are special – such as the iconic “Connie” which is now the world’s only flying Super Constellation from the 1950s while tours include walking through the only Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet remaining in Australia.

Planes and Trains Sunday offers a unique opportunity for all to experience living history just off the Princes Highway adjacent to Shellharbour Airport.
