Albion Park photographer Linda Fury seized a beautiful moment at Bombo in Kiama to capture one view three ways and the result was award-winning.
Her three images – Bombo Blush, Full Surge and The Flow – were all taken from the same spot but appear unique because of the different photographic techniques employed. One landscape photograph has a wider frame, while another intimate landscape captures smaller details of the same place.
Her black and white image, Full Surge, won first place and a perfect score in the Landscape/Seascape category at the 20th Pakenham National Photographic Exhibition 2024. It also won Linda a Top 5 Placement at the Mosman Photography Awards and it was also recently awarded best Monochrome Image of the year in the Kiama-Shellharbour Camera Club end of year awards.
Linda has won many other awards for her photography, including a recent Australian Photographic Society gold medal for Two of a Kind, a fantastic shot of a breaking wave awarded first place in the Landscape/Seascape category at the 5th Edwardstown National.
Her commitment to excellence means Linda has also been invited to judge competitions, both online and in person for local and national awards.
“I enter competitions to gauge how my own images are stacking up against my peers," she says.
"It’s good to step outside your own camera club sometimes as it helps you better your own style and often gives ideas about locations you may not have considered.”
Although living on the South Coast means she is spoilt for choice when it comes to snapping spectacular landscapes, Linda says her extensive travels have helped her develop her craft.
Adventuring across Australia and exploring many cultures overseas has had a huge impact on her creative pathway, enabling her to return home with thousands of stunning images.
As the president of the Kiama/Shellharbour Camera Club, Linda enjoys the chance to teach others and increase her own knowledge and understanding.“Over the years my style has definitely become more relaxed," she says.
"I’m not just snapping away taking hundreds of shots. I take the time to compose an image and think about how the result will look. I also don’t spend a huge amount of time post processing; I prefer to make sure that I have everything right in my camera first.
