It’s Wedding Singer season at the IPAC in Wollongong

Vibrant neon lights, infectious 80s dance moves and impeccable fashion await you at the IPAC from October 19-22 with the heartfelt musical comedy of The Wedding Singer, based on the hit Adam Sandler movie.

If you're seeking an evening filled with laughter, high-energy choreography and uplifting music, don't miss your chance to book tickets to this entertaining production by Illawarra-based musical society, Woods-Ray Theatricals.

Director Liam Woods recently shed some light on the behind-the-scenes process.

"It's been a very collaborative process," he said, "and we've all worked together to make some really shining moments for all the characters involved, to make the relationships really work and the chemistry click."

With only 10 weeks to perfect the choreography and musical numbers, as well as to source and make the props and costumes, the creative team and the cast of 18 local performers have shown an unwavering commitment to creating a high-calibre show.

And while The Wedding Singer may not be as widely known as other musical productions, Liam says that the script's brilliant raw moments of storytelling are perfectly balanced with the dynamic elements of a full-scale musical.

"It gives you all of those moments from the movie, all the funny moments and all the little songs that Robbie sings that everyone is looking for, but then it gives you the full musical experience as well," he says.

With a motivated and talented group behind the production, Liam urges Wollongong locals to support community theatre.

"We’re all working around the clock to bring a show that will entertain audiences to the standard of a professional show. I hope that we can deliver and I just urge people to come out and take a chance."

Tickets are available online, from the IPAC Box Office at 32 Burelli Street Wollongong or over the phone, 02 4224 5999.
