A Guide to Wollongong Seafood Shops

Embark on a seafood journey in Illawarra with our guide to some of the finest establishments offering fresh and sustainable catches. These establishments promise a variety of fresh, frozen and cooked seafood.

  • Harbourside Fish Market’s Mobile Fish Truck, Helensburgh – This truck trades every Friday from 9am to 5pm at 175 Parkes Street, across from Helensburgh Hardware. It offers a diverse selection of seafood directly from the Wollongong Harbour shop.
  • Bush's Meat Market, Bulli – A long-standing butcher chain dating back to 1909 has opened a new "Meat Market" in Bulli on the Princes Highway, taking over the old meat and seafood shop. It has a smaller range than the previous owners but is a great option for those living in the northern Illawarra.
  • Harley and Johns Seafood, Fairy Meadow – This store has serviced Wollongong for over two decades and has an extensive, locally sourced selection. The owners recently earned the distinction of being the first independent fish market in NSW with a certificate of MSC chain of custody and were named a Community Champion at Australia's Sustainable Seafood Awards.
  • Harbourside Fish Market and Café, North Wollongong – Offers both fresh, frozen and cooked seafood. You can order from a variety of seafood options and sit in the restaurant or cook at home.
  • Seafood Brothers, Figtree – Located in Figtree Grove, Seafood Brothers offers a diverse selection of seafood, open seven days a week, ranging from locally caught to Australian and imported varieties. If it is in season, it will be here.
  • Shellharbour Square Fish Market, Shellharbour – Always has a variety of quality, fresh and sustainable seafood on offer, with over 30 years of experience. This team is part of Fishermen's Co-Operative, which means they can purchase fish directly from local fishermen to sell in store, supporting local industry.
